Genre research: thrillers

Image
Common CAMS: close up/extreme close up shots high angle shots low angle shots dutch angle shots wide shots panning shots Common CLAMPS (mis-en-scene) side kicks suburban settings large city settings drab/darker colored costumes dim lighting A Haunting in Venice OldBoy Elements I like in the genre: The plot and story of thrillers are typically very intriguing. The dialogue and sound design can be very good and unique making the audience try and solve the mystery before the protagonist. Elements I don't like in this genre: The pacing in thriller films can be very confusing and hard to follow. The reuse of tropes such as spies, kidnap, and ransom can overly saturate this film genre. Common Editing: splicing jump cuts cross cuts hard cuts flashbacks gradual focus Common Sound: ambient sound string intruments screams digetic whispering piano Examples of films in this genre: Momento Parasite

Movie convection research : The conjuring 3

This movie makes use of several editing conventions such as gradual focus, background focus, blur, straight cuts, and cross cuts. This film also makes great use of sound conventions such as negative space. Certain scenes have no non-digetic sound at all and little to no digetic sound including music or dialogue. This film also includes common horror movie conventions such as prop weapons such as knives, fake blood, and monster vocalizations. I greatly admire the sound design choice of this film. Instead of using sound and instruments to build suspense and tension. It is instead replaced with negative space, leaving the audience with eerie silence. creating an unsettling feeling not knowing when a scare will take place since there are no cues to indicate one. The costume design in this film is also very impressive. each costume felt real and made the character or monster of the scene feel more alive. This movie did make ill use of common horror movie dialogue and plot tropes. The di

Genre decision blog

We have decided to film our opening sequence in the horror genre. This genre is often panned as cliche as there are many which rely solely on cheap jump scares to scare the audience. Me and my partner want to film a competent representation of this genre in spite of this issue. Horror is a very unique genre as often the goal of the filmmaker is to create a sense of unease and terror within an audience which are typically emotions one does not which to instill in people. However this genre's goal is just that and if done correctly is re watched and is deemed a good movie. Horror films are also unique in the aspect that they can often be filmed on very low budgets and still be great films with just as if not more competent visuals compared to films of higher budget in the same genre.

This movie includes several camera angle conventions such as dutch angle shots, tracking shots, low angle shots, close up shots, and overhead shots. This movie also includes sound conventtons such as digetic sound including monster vocalization and various other unsettling sound effects which can be heard by characters within the film. Various mis-en-scene conventions are included in this film such as the use of prop weapons, fake blood, flesh wound makeup, and isolated and eerier locations. The use of overhead and low angle shots are prefect in this movie. The monster is often crawling along the sealing or on the floor and the use of these shots amplifies the terror of the audience by showing the creature from the perspective of the victim. The digetic sound within this movie is used extremely well. Many movements have a specific and eerie sound that makes the overall atmosphere much more unsettling. The pacing and editing of the movie was a bit rushed. The cuts and their timing I

This movie uses conventions such as dutch angles, low angle shots, wide angles, and other such camera conventions. This movie also utilizes eerie and unsettling settings and locations. Sound conventions such as negative space and the use of string instruments are a major part of this film's sound design. I really like the use of cross cuts in this film which are paired with jump scares. This technique allows for the most terror from the audience because they occur with little to no tension or anticipation in the previous frames or scenes. This makes the jump scares more effective and frightens the audience much more, something I really respect. The use of string instruments also aid greatly in building tension in scenes which would not be the same otherwise. The strings have a very unsettling effect, and I really appreciate the sound design choice of these instruments. The plot elements and dialogue conventions used in this film are found often in other horror movies. This contra

Our pitch

Image
Pitch A: Two teen boys are walking home at night after a long day at school, but what is following Pitch B: Two teen boys are hanging out at night alone, but are they? Discuss Pitch A: We would like to film Pitch A because it would not require many props or other affects. It's also set outside and it would be easy to find a more empty and secluded area to walk at night. The drawbacks of this however are that it is much more dangerous to walk at night. There are potential hazards such as cars and people who obviously we cannot obscure their evening for our film. This pitch however would not be too hard to film and since it would be filmed outside that allows for potentially much greater liberty in shot angle, distance, and movement. Discuss Pitch B: We would like to film Pitch B because it would predominately take place indoors in one location. This would make it much easier to film since we have much more control over the environment. There will also be less potential hazards

Hi blog! My name is Kevin I will be working with two other people. One of the people I am working with my friend lance. He loves working out, so we have that in common. He has been working out for like 2 years. Plus, I know he will be a good partner because he cares about school and doing good, so I know he won't slack off. Also, our parents know each other so we will be able to film a good amount for our video. While being able to come up with ideas in person. He also comes a unique culture because he is Korean. We will lean about his discipline, and we can see his style of work and workout methods. My other partner is Julian he also likes working out. He has been working out with 2 years. He will be able to come and collaborate with us for the music video. He also has a different taste in movies so we will have to come to a agreement for the video. It would be a good idea for the  movie genre  that has something to do with working out because we all enjoy doing that. So we need
